WGBH’s Jon Abbott Reacts To NPR CEO’s Ouster, Reports Of ‘Freewheeling Spending’
Let’s just come out and say it, it’s been a lousy week for public broadcasting. Just as Congress is debating whether to cut off federal support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, NPR was embarrassed by video clips showing one of its executives making unflattering comments about Republicans and the Tea Party. That led to the resignation yesterday of NPR’s CEO Vivian Schiller. Then today, the Boston Herald reported on what they described as “freewheeling spending” and “lavish spending” here at WGBH. It all leads to the larger question now before Congress: is public broadcasting a good use of taxpayer dollars? WGBH CEO Jon Abbott joins us.
