From China To New England, Gender Selection Is A Slippery Slope
Gender SelectionOurs is undeniably a culture of choice. We pick our careers and our partners. We decide which Twitter feeds to follow and what shampoo to use. And - increasingly - we even choose the sex of our children. Gender selection is becoming easier and more common. But what does it mean for the future face of our world? We’ll discuss the murky ethics of this “unnatural” selection, from China and India to right here in New England. We’re joined by Mara Hvistendahl, a correspondent with Science magazine and the author of Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men; Vanessa Fong, an associate professor in the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University and the author of Only Hope: Coming of Age Under China’s One-Child Policy; and by Dr. Joseph A. Hill, president and CEO of the Fertility Centers of New England
