Week In Review: What summer doldrums? It’s mid-July, scores of Americans are on vacation, but that hasn’t stopped the busy news cycle from whirring away this week. British Petroleum managed to – at least temporarily – cap its hemorrhaging well, meaning for the first time in 86 days, oil is not gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. With the help of three GOP senators from New England – financial reform clears congress. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the legislation into law next week. And speaking of Mr. Obama, a new poll by CBS news finds nearly three-quarters of Americans do not believe the president’s stimulus spending has improved the economy. Despite his legislative successes and broad voter support for financial regulation,is the president truly flirting with a failed presidency? We’ll also talk about the expanded gambling bill and other Beacon Hill business consuming state lawmakers in the last two weeks of this legislative session, the governor’s race and much more. Here to help me sort through this week’s top headlines are: WGBH’s Kara Miller, The Boston Phoenix’s David Bernstein, and The Boston Globe’s Kevin Cullen.
