Mattapan In The Aftermath Of A ‘Stunning’ Murder Trial Verdict
Mattapan VerdictShock. Disbelief. Anger. That is the mood in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood this afternoon as residents continue to grapple with the results in the trial of two men accused of murdering four people, including a toddler during a drug robbery in October of 2010. After days of deliberations, jurors last week cleared Edward Washington of all charges – including four counts of murder. As for the alleged gunman, Dwayne Moore, he was cleared of a drug charge, but the judge declared a mistrial after the jury remained deadlocked on the other charges against him. It's been reported that of the eight women and four men who served on that jury, 11 were ready to convict. But one juror, a middle aged woman – refused to budge. According to at least two of her fellow jurors, she told them from the beginning she'd be a holdout. Suffolk County DA Dan Conley has promised that Dwayne Moore will again stand trial - in front of a new jury - but for now, one of the most gruesome murders in recent memory remains unpunished. We’ll discuss how this stunning turn of events is reverberating throughout the community.
