Gays and Southie's St. Patrick's Day Parade
In 1995 the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously voted to allow Boston's St. Patrick’s Day organizers to ban gay groups from marching in the parade. On a day when the people of Boston celebrate who they are with such palpable pride, how can the city continue to discriminate against gays and lesbians? We explored what this ban means to Boston in the 21st century with Boston City Councilors at-large Felix Arroyo and Ayanna Pressley, and Cathleen Finn, who fought a legal battle in the 90s so she could march in the parade.
