On Jan. 25, former Boston City Councilor, Chuck Turner was slapped with a three-year sentence behind bars. The crime: pocketing a 1,000 dollar bribe and than lying about it under oath. Turner’s not backing down—he’s promising to appeal AND to return to politics. The drama is reverberating beyond the courtroom. Supporters are rallying around Turner—not questioning his guilt—but the harshness of his sentence. Meanwhile Attorney General Martha Coakley is using this as an opportunity to highlight public corruption. It’s a story of a fallen man whose years of dedication to the city have been subsumed by corruption charges—a tragedy tangled up in the threads of conspiracy and race. We spoke with our political contributor, Marvin Venay, the director of the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus, and took calls during this hour.
