Dismantling No Child Left Behind
The controversial education reform policy known as No Child Left Behind was action item number one for a George W. Bush when he first got to the White House. He pushed for -and won- hard reform across the board for students. To do it, yearly tests measured student progress and identified so-called "failing schools" under-performing students and teachers.
Now, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan -appointed by President Obama- is dropping hints that big changes are in store. Back-burnered due to the debt ceiling debate, Duncan says certain provisions of No Child Left Behind may be waived soon, even sometime this month.
