HelmetHub

The Hubway bikeshare program was rolled out last summer in Boston to great fanfare. Now that ridership is up, there are plans to expand into other parts of the city. The only problem? Safety. Riders aren't likely to wear helmets when they grab a bike off the rack to go for a spin. So an MIT design course decided to change that. They planned, prototyped and revised until they came up with HelmetHub, a bike helmet vending machine. We talk with two of the students who worked on the project about creating it, and when their machines will be street-ready.

GUESTS:
Dani Hicks and Chris Mills are students from David Wallace's Product Processes course at MIT. They are two members of the team that designed HelmetHub, a machine that dispenses helmets and would work in tandem with Boston's Hubway bike rental service.
