The battle over how to interpret the Bible is as old as the Bible itself. In today’s culture wars, the Christian right can use it to oppose gay marriage. And on the left, the progressives can see the Good Book as a bad influence on gender equality and sexual freedom. We looked at the sacred texts with religion professor Jennifer Wright Knust. In her new book, “Unprotected Texts: The Bible's Surprising Contradictions About Sex and Desire,” she examines what The Bible really says about sex, and how modern day interpretations of the Bible can be misunderstood.
