Kip Tiernan, A Radio Remembrance
Over the Fourth of July weekend, Kip Tiernan passed away at the age of 85. She is probably best known for founding Rosie’s Place, the nation’s first shelter for homeless women. She was a Boston fixture, instrumental in establishing so many other agencies that helped the disadvantaged throughout the state. It’s hard to believe she is no longer with us—in body at least--but her spirit is here, in full force. This hour we pay tribute to her.
Guests:
Fran Froehlich, Kip’s friend, Kip’s urban sister and partner in crime. She is the Co-Founder/Co-Director of the Poor People’s United Fund
Marilyn Dunn, Executive Director of the Schlesinger Library where Kip’s papers are archived
Beth Healy, a reporter for The Boston Globe who has been writing Kip’s biography.
This wouldn’t be a proper tribute without you. Please leave a comment below or at our Facebook page with your recollections of Kip--what she meant to you, and how show influenced your life.
In March 2010, we spoke with Kip Tiernan. Hear the interview here.
