Who Watches the Watchers?

An open government supporter and self-described hacker, Boston University grad and programmer Rich Jones wanted a way to document citizen interactions with law enforcement-- at traffic stops, checkpoints, and other routine encounters. So, he wrote a recording program for smartphones and called it Cop Recorder and created OpenWatch.net, where citizens can upload videos and audio recordings, watch encounters with police, and even access the source code for his program. Now, with intrepid smartphone users uploading daily submissions, Jones is prepared to take this "citizen scientific journalism" to the masses. He joins us to talk about it.
You can record audio without a smartphone, using OpenWatch's hotline from any cell phone: 217-238-6300.
