US: The Land of Plenty, and Plenty of Nothing
We’re talking about the deepening class divide in America with Georgetown law professor Peter Edelman. Back in the sixties when he was an aid to Senator Robert F. Kennedy, he went to the deep South to see extreme poverty first hand. Fast forward to the 1990s, Edelman became a household name when he resigned from his position in the Clinton Administration in protest of the president’s welfare reform. Now Edelman is one of the most outspoken antipoverty advocates around. Today, the income-level disparity is wider than it’s been since the Great Depression. In his new book, So Rich, So Poor, Edelman looks at the forces that are driving this ever-growing wealth gap.

Peter Edelman, lawyer, policy maker, law professor at Georgetown University Law Center
