Callie did fantastic job in bringing the American Racing Homing Pigeons story to the listeners. This is an interesting past time that can be enjoyed right in our backyards, and include all members of the family.
And, who would ever think that these birds of peace also went to war and their service resulted in the saving of lives. You just n ever know!
Americans have officially been racing homing pigeons in the U.S. since the late 1800s. With the ability to travel hundreds of miles with out rest, homing pigeons have been (and still are) used by the U.S. military to carry messages back and forth. Count Walt Disney, Mike Tyson, and the British Royal Family among the famous pigeon racing enthusiasts. Today, we talk with two of New England's best pigeon racers about the sport.Guests:
