Today, any mention of the bargain basement is bound to conjure up images of the gaping hole in Downtown Crossing where the flagship store once lay. But when Filene's Basement opened in 1909, it was a true pioneer. The store introduced a radical discount model, and was remarkably forward-thinking in terms of employee rights. In his film, "Voices From The Basement," Filmmaker Michael Bavaro follows over 100 years of the Basement, and the memories - and bargains - within.
