A study by the Massachusetts Bar Association says the state has too many lawyers and not enough work. What's worse, the state's law schools are churning out students with six-figure debt and no real experience. So the Bar Association convened a task force of judges, attorneys and law school admissions advisers sitting to come up with a list of recommendations to improve job prospects for new lawyers. Those include admitting fewer students, having lawyers complete "residencies" similar to doctors in medical school, making the bar exam harder to pass, and encouraging new lawyers to take on pro bono and community work to build up experience.
Today we hear from two people from the task force. Eric Parker is the task force's co-chair, and Lynn Muster is a staff attorney for the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
Did you think about pursuing a law degree? Did you go through with it? Lawyers, are you swimming in debt? Did you land the job you were hoping for, or did you settle for something else? Tweet us @calliecrossley, or leave a message on our Facebook page.
