About History Detectives
America's History Detectives prove that an object found in an attic or backyard might be anything but ordinary. Tukufu Zuberi, professor of sociology and the director of the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Gwendolyn Wright, professor of architecture at Columbia University, Elyse Luray, independent appraiser and expert in art history, and Wesley Cowan, independent appraiser and auctioneer, leave no stone unturned as they travel around the country to explore the stories behind local folklore, prominent figures, and family legends.
FDR's New Deal programs put people back to work including many in various arts projects. But what happened to these important pieces of our nation's history? Our contributor has inherited some paintings that may be part of this lost work. Created by her aunt, Thelma Johnson Streat, she believes they were mural studies. Did any of these studies become murals and do any of them still exist?
