America's History Detectives prove that an object found in an attic or backyard might be anything but ordinary. Tukufu Zuberi, professor of sociology and the director of the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Gwendolyn Wright, professor of architecture at Columbia University, Elyse Luray, independent appraiser and expert in art history, and Wesley Cowan, independent appraiser and auctioneer, leave no stone unturned as they travel around the country to explore the stories behind local folklore, prominent figures, and family legends.
A man from New Mexico bought a theremin, one of the first electronic instruments off e-Bay. When his theremin arrived, our contributor found an unusual document tacked to the inside of the cabinet. The letterhead paper bore the address to the Theremin Studios in New York City. Does our contributor have one of the fewer than a dozen instruments in the U.S. that Leon Theremin built himself?
