The Boston health officials say 70 percent of Mattapan residents are considered either overweight or obese, while the obesity rate in neighboring Dorchester is 64 percent. Part of the problem is the lack of big supermarkets, which create "food deserts" in these neighborhoods. To help fight this trend, farmers' markets have sprung up all over Boston neighborhoods.
