Lisa, Im the reporter who interviewed Mr. McArdle. Just so you know, I tried to speak with the niece he claims obtained his condo illicitly, took out a $120,000 mortgage on it, and then evicted him. She didnt get back to me neither did a second niece I tried to contact. However, a third niece did return my call and state that her uncles charges were unfair.
The problem, form my point of view, was that this third niece seemed ignorant of certain key detailse.g., the $120,000 mortgage and what transpired when Mr. McArdle consulted an attorney. She said the attorney Mr. McArdle contacted wouldnt take his case because it was so weakbut that same attorney told me that Mr. McArdles case was actually quite strong. Niece #3 also told me that a government agency Mr. McArdle contacted in Arizona found that he was fortunate to have the niece who bought his condo looking out for him, and put that conclusion in writing. But while I urged her to provide the document in question, she never did.
That said, if there are specific aspects of Mr. McArdles story you know to be untrue, Id like to here what they arewith as much supporting documentation as you can provide. Feel free to contact me at adam_reilly@wgbh.org or 6173002534.

I was a long time resident of Massachusetts, 42 years, and always thought of WGBH as a reputable TV Station. I guess I was mistaken, there is so much wrong with this story I dont know where to start. I would think that the least you would do is check the facts. Mr. McArdles account of the facts have been completely and utterly fabricated. I am an extended family member somewhat removed from the situation but involved enough to know that not only is Mr. McArdle fabricating the entire story he is leaving out several pieces of information that would put him in a very unfavorable light. I volunteer with seniors and my cousin has been involved with seniors for several years and we know first hand of elderly abuse. I can tell you there was no abuse in any form in this instance.
Shame on you WGBH for not checking your facts. There are plenty of public records which if checked, would have disputed this entire story.
It's been called a "silent pandemic" affecting the most vulnerable citizens in our community. How can you tell if your elderly loved one is the victim of abuse? We hear one man's harrowing account of abuse at the hands of his own family.
