Former Mayor Kevin White, who led Boston through some of the most tumultuous times in the city’s history, died on Friday at age 82. In 1968, following the assassination of Martin Luther King, White worked with WGBH to broadcast a James Brown concert, helping Boston avoid the violence that had erupted across the rest of the nation. White also pled for peace as Boston wrestled with the desegregation of public schools and played a pivotal role in the redevelopment of Quincy Market. In this special presentation, Greater Boston looks back at White’s legacy and the permanent change he brought to Boston.
