Amongst the many factors at play are
1. greedy airline execs who only think about their own salaries at the expense of pilot salaries
2. a flighty and fickle public that will pay $300 for red sox tickets but will balk at the thought of paying the same for a domestic airline ticket
These factors contribute to regional airline pilots who are way overworked, undertrained and underpayed. Regional airlines dont retain high experience pilots who us lower experience pilots can learn from because those [hi experienced] pilots cant afford to stay w/ the company thus move on to better paying jobs when the opportunity comes.
One year after the deadliest domestic airline accident in seven years, Frontline investigates the crash of Continental 3407 in Buffalo, N.Y., and discovers a dramatically changed airline industry, where regional carriers now account for half of the nation's daily departures. But how long can the industry keep airlines both cheap and safe?
