Tanglewood At 75
On August 5, 1937 FDR was in the White House. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt spent the day at their summer home in Hyde Park receiving visitors and the evening with friends reading aloud. Over 3,000 people spent the afternoon at Fenway Park watching the Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians five to four, despite the Indians' better record that year. And the Boston Symphony Orchestra played their first official concert under a tent at their new summer home in the Berkshires — Tanglewood. Seventy-five summers later, they are still playing there.
