Backstage With Brian Bell

A production of

Soprano Hila Plitmann

Writing about one of the main characters in Thomas Adès's The Tempest, Alex Ross, music critic of The New Yorker, wrote, "The spirit Ariel ... scales the heights of the soprano range and stays there for perilously long periods of time. In her first minute onstage, the singer has to belt out seventeen high E’s."

Brian Bell talks with soprano Hila Plitmann about her March 2011 appearance with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as Ariel.
