Backstage With Brian Bell

A production of

Mahler's Symphony No. 2 with Benjamin Zander

Mahler's Second Symphony has transformed listeners since it was first performed in 1895.  Benjamin Zander, the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic and one of today's great Mahler interpreters, digs into the music and offers thoughts, reflections, and a guided tour of the piece.  The first question posed to the conductor was, "What should a listener expect, if they're hearing it for the first time?"

ABOUT BACKSTAGE WITH BRIAN BELL

As the producer of WGBH 89.7's live broadcasts of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Brian Bell has the opportunity to discuss music and the process of making music with guest conductors, soloists, and orchestra members.

Brian shares these conversations and often a chuckle or two, offering a perspective that bridges the divide between a listener's knowledge and an artist's mind.
