Its unfortunate that PBS/WGBH is perpetuating the Conservative myth of Ronald Reagan as popular when he left the White House. In actuality, his approval ratings were in the 40s. A few months later, after he had appeared in commercials in Japan for which he was reportedly paid very well, a poll was taken asking respondents Would you vote for Ronald Reagan again? 60 of the respondents said No Since the mid80s when PBS funding was reportedly threatened by the Conservative administration, PBS has seemingly tread very lightly on issues concerning the Conservative movement and its stars. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this has undermined PBS credibility in this area.

In 1988, after two terms in office, Ronald Reagan left the White House one of the most popular presidents of the twentieth century -- and one of the most controversial. One by one, his opponents underestimated him; one by one, Reagan surprised them, rising to become a president who always preferred to see America as a "shining city on a hill."
