Recruited riders for Freedom Rides were as diverse as possible - black, white, young, middle aged, older, clergymen, and rabbis. "The Freedom Rides were trying to say to America: we are a diverse country - let's act like a diverse country," says Rabbi Israel Dresner, an original Freedom Rider.
