Attend a Taping of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show as 16 Massachusetts High School Teams Compete

Tapings take place Saturday, January 21, Sunday, January 22, Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29

BOSTON, Mass. (January 18, 2017) – Students from 16 Massachusetts high schools will face off in front of a studio audience in the opening round of High School Quiz Show on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22. High School Quiz Show is WGBH’s televised, single-elimination, bracketed academic tournament.

Winning teams will advance to quarterfinal, semifinal and state championship rounds, which will be taped on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29. The state champion will compete in the fifth annual Governor’s Cup Challenge against New Hampshire Public Television’s Granite State Challenge champion.

All High School Quiz Show episodes are taped at WGBH Studios in Brighton. Results are confidential and embargoed until after broadcast. Media who wish to attend tapings should email WGBH Media Relations’ Emily Balk before close of business Friday, January 20 to receive press credentials.
 
The Emmy Award- and Parents’ Choice Award-winning High School Quiz Show is produced and broadcast by WGBH and hosted by Billy Costa. The new season premieres on Saturday, February 4 at 6pm on WGBH 2.

High School Quiz Show is endorsed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and the Massachusetts PTA. Questions on the show are aligned with the Massachusetts high school curriculum standards in subjects that include literature, history, science and math, as well as current events and general knowledge.
