UPDATED: Attend a Taping of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show as 16 Mass. High School Teams Compete

Tapings take place Sunday, January 25, Saturday, January 31, Sunday, February 1, Monday, February 2, Saturday February 7 and Sunday, February 8 (TBD)

BOSTON, Mass. (January 23, 2015) – Students from 16 Massachusetts high schools will face off in front of a studio audience in the opening round of High School Quiz Show on Sunday, January 25 and Saturday, January 31. High School Quiz Show is a televised, single-elimination, bracketed academic tournament. The season six field includes three past champions and three schools making their first appearance in the tournament.

Winning teams will advance to quarterfinal, semifinal and state championship rounds, which will be taped on Sunday, February 1 and Saturday, February 7. The state champion will compete in the third annual Governor’s Cup Challenge against New Hampshire Public Television’s Granite State Challenge champion. The Governor’s Cup Challenge will be taped on Saturday, February 7 or Sunday, February 8. 

All shows are taped at WGBH Studios in Brighton. Results are confidential and embargoed until after broadcast. Media who wish to attend tapings must email WGBH Media Relations’ Emily Balk. 

The Emmy Award- and Parents’ Choice Award-winning High School Quiz Show is produced and broadcast by WGBH and hosted by Billy Costa. The new season premieres on Saturday, February 7 at 6pm on WGBH 2.

PRESS CREDENTIALS: All press who wish to cover the tapings must email WGBH Media Relations’ Emily Balk  to receive press credentials. Press attending the tapings will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement that embargoes results of match ups until after broadcast.
 
AUDIENCE SEATS: WGBH invites members of the community to be part of the studio audience. Tickets are free, but an RSVP is required

High School Quiz Show is endorsed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and the Massachusetts PTA. The Princeton Review judges the televised competition and reviews the program’s questions. Questions on the show are aligned with the Massachusetts high school curriculum standards in subjects that include literature, history, science and math, as well as current events and general knowledge. Major funding for High School Quiz Show is provided by Safety Insurance. Additional funding is provided by Massachusetts Teachers Association, XFINITY from Comcast, Harvard Summer School Secondary School Program, Bentley University and Subaru of New England.
