WCAI Takes Home Five Wins from Public Radio News Directors Inc. Awards

Cape and Islands NPR radio station recognized for enterprise reporting, news and public affairs and sound

WOODS HOLE, Mass. (June 25, 2014) – WCAI, the Cape and Islands NPR station, won five awards at the Public Radio News Directors Inc. (PRNDI) awards on Saturday, June 21 in Washington, D.C. Each year, PRNDI recognizes the best of local public radio news in a wide array of categories. 

Managing editor Sean Corcoran’s series “Desperate for a Cure: The Search for New Alzheimer's Treatments,” took First Place in Investigative/Enterprise Reporting. WCAI’s daily public affairs show, The Point with Mindy Todd, won First Place in the News/Public Affairs Program category for the show, “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.” A story from the series, “Creative Life,” won First Place in the Best Use of Sound category. 

WCAI also took Second Place in the Call-in Program category for The Point with Mindy Todd and its show, “Preventing Breast Cancer: The Latest Research.” A Second Place award for Best Multi-Media Presentation was also given to the web-based feature, “Who's Who In New England's Fisheries.”

The PRNDI honors are the latest in a series of awards for WCAI. Earlier this year WCAI won two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards (“The Long Haul” for Best News Series and “A Weapon to Take Out Squirrels” for Best Writing). WCAI also won two New England Associated Press Awards (The Point with Mindy Todd in the Call-In Show category and “Desperate for a Cure” for Best Investigative Journalism). Corcoran also was awarded a Gabriel Award in June for his obituary series, “A Life Remembered.”
