Lexington High School Wins "High School Quiz Show" State Championship

BOSTON, Mass. WGBH’s High School Quiz Show crowned Lexington High School the 2016 Season Seven State Champion on Saturday, May 21. This is Lexington’s first championship title on WGBH’s award-winning academic tournament.

“Congratulations to the students from Lexington High School who rose to the challenge of High School Quiz Show’s academic rigor,” said WGBH President and CEO Jon Abbott. “The depth of knowledge that Massachusetts students showcase on WGBH’s academic competition is a testament to their dedication and ambition.”

Teammates Colin, Devin, Krishna and Ravi represented their school this season, coached by Social Studies teacher Bill Cole and Chemistry teacher Kari Darling. Their additional teammates are Duncan and Reggie. (WGBH policy does not allow the release of minors’ full names. Last names can be requested through school staff. Contact Emily Balk for more information.)

Hosted by Boston radio and television personality Billy Costa, WGBH’s High School Quiz Show’s seventh season kicked off last November with the “Super Sunday” qualifying event, where 131 Massachusetts high schools took an identical 100-question oral quiz at WGBH Studios. Sixteen schools advanced to the televised weekly tournament.

The championship was followed by the broadcast of the Governor’s Cup Challenge in which High School Quiz Show Massachusetts champion Lexington High School took on New Hampshire Public Television’s Granite State Challenge champion, Nashua South High School. Lexington High School came out ahead to win the Governor’s Cup. This year’s Governor’s Cup matchup was hosted by NHPTV.
