99.5 WCRB Unveils New Sunday Evening Series, “In Concert”

BOSTON, September 14, 2016 — 99.5 WCRB, Greater Boston’s classical music station, will debut a new radio series, “In Concert” to capture the wealth of classical music performed in the area with pre-recorded concerts every Sunday starting at 7 p.m. The series kicks off on Sept. 18 with highlights from the 2015-2016 concert season, including performances by the Handel and Haydn Society, the Celebrity Series of Boston and the Boston Early Music Festival. More than a dozen music organizations have already signed on as partners.

“This is a chance for WCRB to be the hub of what is arguably the most exciting and diverse classical music scene in the country,” said Tony Rudel, WCRB Station Manager. “WCRB ‘In Concert’ puts a spotlight on the best of the best and we’re delighted to be working with so many great partners.”

“In Concert” is produced by Executive Producer Brian McCreath and hosted by assorted members of the WCRB staff. The series will feature local performances by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, A Far Cry, Rockport Music and others, and will include everything from solo recitals to complete operas. The series also will feature artists from abroad who rarely perform in the area, and each show will include commentary and interviews with the artists.

“The musical landscape of Boston is incredibly rich, and each concert brings with it amazing stories,” said McCreath. “It's the perfect opportunity to fulfill the motivation that drives each of us at WCRB each day: the connection of great music to the everyday lives of people around Boston and New England."

"The Handel and Haydn Society is honored to partner with WCRB and their new 'In Concert' radio series,” said David Snead, President and CEO of the Handel and Haydn Society. “Boston is lucky both to boast a prolific and vibrant classical music scene, and to have a radio station committed to supporting its rich, live concerts."
