Jazz 24/7 Digital Stream Launches on WGBH.org

Presenting Jazz 24/7, a new online service featuring selections from Eric in the Evening

BOSTON, October 4, 2016 — Boston public broadcaster WGBH has announced the launch of Jazz 24/7, a new online music streaming service featuring a wide assortment of jazz music favorites and new classics. The cornerstone of the service is a mix of jazz selections handpicked by Tessil Collins, a media production expert, educational curriculum developer and artist manager for several jazz musicians. Collins is also the executive producer of the Internet music service, Sun-Music.net.

“WGBH has always been a big supporter of Boston’s vibrant and thriving jazz community,” said Collins. “WGBH Jazz 24/7 builds on that history by making new and classic selections, as well as relevant content, available to jazz fans anytime, anywhere.”

Jazz24/7 is one of the inaugural offerings in a planned WGBH digital subscriber program. The free streaming jazz service can be accessed by registering online at wgbh.org/jazz247. In addition to the jazz music stream, WGBH also will offer exclusive jazz-related content to its members featuring timely and topical interviews, as well as selected archival recordings from the more than 3,000 interviews Eric Jackson, host of Eric in the Evening and dean of Boston jazz radio, has conducted over his career with music icons ranging from Wynton Marsalis to Ornette Coleman to Dizzy Gillespie.

“Jazz 24/7 is a great mix of music and thoughtfully aligned content that will be a reflection of what’s happening in the jazz world, as well as what’s happening right here in Boston,” said Jackson.

The Jazz 24/7 stream has been in beta production since 2015 and was recently nominated for station of the year by JazzWeek in its Internet, Non-Terrestrial, or Syndicator of the Year category. Moving forward, WGBH plans to add additional streaming music stations in a variety of genres to its portfolio, as well as other digital services including video streaming.
