WGBH’s High School Quiz Show Welcomes 16 Mass. High Schools to Compete on Eighth Season

Academic teams from across the state will vie for the title of State Champion

BOSTON, November 22, 2016 – WGBH’s High School Quiz Show has announced the sixteen teams from across Massachusetts to compete on the eighth season of WGBH’s televised academic tournament. More than 110 schools vied for a spot on the broadcast. The schools that received the 16 highest scores on an oral quiz at the Super Sunday qualifying event held earlier this month at WGBH’s studios in Brighton, will move on to the next phase of the competition. Among the top 16 is defending state and Governor’s Cup Champion, Lexington High School.

“The depth of knowledge that Massachusetts high school students bring to WGBH impresses me every season,” said High School Quiz Show host, Billy Costa. “High School Quiz Show is so much fun to host and to watch. I know that viewers of all ages will get into the spirit of the competition as much as I do.”

WGBH made the official announcement on the High School Quiz Show website today. The schools that will compete for the state title are:

The top 16 teams will advance to compete in the televised, single-elimination, bracketed academic tournament that will determine a state champion. The season will culminate with the Governor’s Cup Challenge, when WGBH’s High School Quiz Show state champion team takes on New Hampshire Public Television’s (NHPTV) Granite State Challenge winner for the fifth annual interstate quiz show face-off. This season’s Governor’s Cup Challenge will be hosted by WGBH at their Boston studios.
