WGBH Scholarships Benefit Brighton High School Students

Two Exceptional Students to Receive the David Kuhn Scholarship and the WGBH Dare to Dream Scholarship

BOSTON, Mass. (June 30, 2016) – WGBH has awarded two scholarships in support of two students at Brighton High School. The Boston public broadcaster awarded the annual David Kuhn Scholarship to Brighton High School senior Claudia Franco and the annual WGBH Dare to Dream Scholarship to An Nguyen.

“WGBH is proud to honor Claudia and An with these scholarships and support them on their paths to college,” said WGBH Vice President for Communications and Government Relations, Jeanne Hopkins. “Both students have worked exceptionally hard and deserve to be recognized for outstanding effort and achievement.  These scholarships are an important investment in our community, and our show of faith in the tremendous potential of these two young women.”

The David Kuhn Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 each year to a Brighton High School student in memory of David Kuhn who worked at WGBH for 23 years, leading both local and national productions, including The Ten O’Clock News.

Franco, this year’s David Kuhn Scholarship recipient, ranked 12th in her senior class and has received outstanding marks in her Advanced Placement English Literature class. She will be attending UMass Dartmouth in the fall.

The WGBH Dare to Dream Scholarship is presented to an immigrant student who works to achieve the goal of attending college. The scholarship is funded with $1,000 from WGBH’s annual employee parking lottery.

Nguyen, the recipient of this year’s WGBH Dare to Dream Scholarship, will be attending Bridgewater State University this fall. She intends to pursue a career in global management.
