WGBH Productions Take Home Daytime Emmys

Design Squad Nation and The Mind of a Chef honored with Daytime Emmy awards for outstanding achievements in television

BOSTON, Mass. (April 29, 2015) WGBH productions Design Squad Nation and The Mind of a Chef won Emmys this weekend at the 42nd Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards. Design Squad Nation, WGBH’s educational series produced for PBS to encourage kids’ interest in engineering, was recognized with a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding New Approaches – Original Daytime Program or Series. The Mind of a Chef, the PBS food series presented by WGBH Studio Six, earned three Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Main Title and Graphic Design; Outstanding Single Camera Photography; and Outstanding Single Camera Editing.

“Thank you to executive producer Marisa Wolsky and the entire Design Squad Nation team for creating such an educationally important project, and for making engineering popular and cool with kids aged 8-12,” said Brigid Sullivan, WGBH Vice President for Children’s Media and Educational Programming.

The Mind of a Chef production team received awards on both coasts in the same night, adding to its Emmys wins with a 2015 James Beard Foundation Broadcast Media Award for Outstanding Television Program, On Location.

The Mind of a Chef continues to push the culinary envelope. We couldn’t be more delighted with the recognition of this effort by both the National Academy of Arts and Sciences and the James Beard Foundation,” said Laurie Donnelly, WGBH Executive Producer National and Director Lifestyles Programs.

The Daytime Emmy® Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2am-6pm during the 2014 calendar year. See the complete list of winners here.
