Thirty Years of Photography in Boston

detail of "Milk Drop Coronet on Red Tin, 1957"
by Harold Edgerton

The Decordova Museum's ambitious scholarly retrospective, "Photography in Boston: 1955-1985," on view from September 16, 2000 to January 21, 2001, details the key role Boston has played in the evolution of this contemporary medium. In the November 2000 broadcast, Greater Boston Arts interviewed two local photographers included in the exhibit, Barbara Norfleet and Arno Minkkinen. Barbara Norfleet broke new ground in the documentary genre with "All the Right People," a collection of images and interviews with the upper class. Arno Minkkinen has been using his own nude body as a formal and metaphorical device for thirty years. Greater Boston Arts interviewed them on their work in the exhibit, on being a photographer in Boston, and on their personal artistic visions.
