Hear Emily Rooney's full interview with Sen. Scott Brown
BOSTON — Senator Scott Brown says he wishes Washington lawmakers would embrace the same kind of bipartisan unity that followed the 9/11 terror attacks.
In a conversation with WGBH’s Emily Rooney on Tuesday, Sen. Scott Brown said he hoped the country could rediscover that kind of "patriotisim."
"It’s my hope that we all take a moment to remember what happened. Do you remember when this happened, we had all of the Senators standing outside of the Capitol saying, 'You know what, never agian, we're going to let these terrorists get us again,'" Brown said.
Brown said we need that same spirit now.
"Well, you know what, I look at what we're going through right now, being in a financial emergency, our economic problems as a similar situation. And I'm hopeful that we can get our congressmen and Senators to once again put aside the partisan bickering and rancor and just the dysfunctionality here and work toward that same type of patriotism that we had back then," Brown said.
"We are all Americans first and we need to remember that every once in a while."
