Member Engagement: Volunteer & Studio Tour Program

The mission of the Member Engagement Department is to identify new members and cultivate, steward and increase commitments of existing relationships between The WGBH Educational Foundation and its membership. This department enables WGBH to carry out our public media mission by raising contributions from individuals through our annual Auctions, the Business Member Partner Program, volunteer programming, and special events. Member Engagement also works to form donor relationships with local companies and organizations that share a common value and commitment to the education and cultural enrichment of our community. Through database marketing, member engagement, relationship building, and fundraising, the Membership Engagement team provides WGBH with the economic resources to pursue its mission. 

Internship Description:
Lights!  Cameras!  Volunteer Action!  Volunteers are the engine that powers WGBH, from the acquisition/processing of product donations for Auction and providing behind-the-scenes studio tours, to answering phones during TV pledge and promoting WGBH membership to the public at events held in our Brighton studios and out in the community. The Volunteer & Marketing Intern will have the unique opportunity to assist the Volunteer & Marketing Manager ensure the participation of 2,500+ individual and group volunteers who help to keep the public in WGBH’s public media. The intern will have the opportunity to experience volunteer management, event planning, and outreach on an exceptionally large scale.

  • Assist Volunteer & Marketing Manager with daily activities and projects to support WGBH’s Local Development Department
  • Create and assist with promotional ideas and events for current and potential volunteer relations strategies, including preparation of marketing materials
  • Assist in scheduling and organization of volunteers and volunteer training sessions based on office/event needs
  • Attend and assist with promotions, fundraising and community events
  • Supervise flow of volunteer communications, including responding to volunteer inquiries, maintenance of volunteer listings and social media pages, and drafting volunteer emails/event recaps
  • Track volunteer metrics (e.g. # of events, volunteer hours donated, etc.) and data relating to new members, TV pledge, volunteers and events
  • Provide administrative support as needed

Skills Preferred:

  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and customer service skills – please include 1-2 short writing samples
  • Strong computer skills – familiarity with the Mac platform and Microsoft Office a must, as well as experience with various social networking platforms. We prefer candidates to have experience with/proficiency in most of the following: PowerPoint, Excel, basic HTML, FileMaker Pro, and/or database systems
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Strong follow-through and attention to detail
  • Able to work with a team as well as autonomously
  • Majors preferred but not limited to: Public Relations, Marketing, Communication, English, Non-Profit Administration
