On-Air Fundraising and Marketing (TV Pledge Production)

WGBH is public service media for New England--on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community. We're the single largest producer of PBS primetime and online programming, and a major source of programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.

Department Description:

The On-Air Fundraising & Marketing Department (often also referred to as “Pledge Production”) is one of the most visible and recognized fundraising groups within the Local Development and Marketing wing at WGBH.  They are primarily responsible for producing short form "spots" and long form “pledge breaks" that are seen both locally and across the PBS network, as well as the short-form “spots” and multi-day live “pledge drives” heard on 89.7 WGBH (Boston’s Local NPR) and 99.5 WCRB (Classical Radio Boston).  Their focus is to highlight the scope and mission of the WGBH Educational Foundation and to engage viewers in supporting that cause.

An internship within the On-Air Fundraising & Marketing Department will give you insight into how different marketing strategies come together to form an effective fundraising campaign.  You'll also be exposed to the behind-the-scenes work that goes into a typical live studio production, both on TV and radio.

Internship Description:

Support production team with various duties including: office work, research, transcribing, assisting with any live or pre-taped field production event as production assistant, and with craft service support.  Pre-production & post-production are included.  Availibilty on some evenings, weekends, and early mornings is a must.

Skills Preferred:

Applicants should be familiar with Macintosh computers and software, including Word and Excel.  Attention to detail is highly important, as is an interest in TV & radio production, marketing, and/or fundraising.

WGBH Internship Requirements:

  1. WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  2. Internships are unpaid.

WGBH IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER. Please note that this job description is meant to be a generic description and represents the minimum job duties an individual will be required to perform. Individual departments will/can customize job descriptions and hours of work to meet their specific needs.
