World Channel

WORLD Channel is a 24/7, full service multicast channel featuring public television’s signature nonfiction documentary, science, and news programming complemented by original content from emerging producers. The channel provides viewers with independent voices telling personal stories from around the globe. This sharing of stories, complemented by digital content on the channel’s companion website and social media sits, provide active engagement with content featuring global communities, scientific advances, revelations in history, lives of the great and the unsung, and perspective on today’s headlines and critical issues around the world.

 
Internship Description:

WORLD Channel is a multicast channel featuring public television’s signature nonfiction documentary, science, and news programming complemented by original content from emerging producers. The channel provides viewers with independent voices telling personal stories from around the globe.

WORLD’s mission is to expand the definition of public media, one that targets a younger and more diverse demographic, and invites participation by a broad array of voices and creators underserved by traditional media. Our four original series include America ReFramed, Local USA, Doc World, and Stories from the Stage.

WORLD is produced and distributed by WGBH Boston, American Public Television and WNET New York in association with the Public Broadcasting Service and the National Educational Telecommunications Association.

The intern may assist in a variety of efforts, including but not limited to, supporting the Channel’s broadcast and digital presence. Under the direction of WORLD, the intern may:

•    Screen film submissions for programming and editorial review

•    Create digital content such as social media copy, images, short video content, newsletters, and toolkits for social media.

•    Assist in post-production efforts such as captioning, media managing, and creating short form video content

•    Research and light administrative support

•    Attend staff meetings

•    Assist in production of in-house, original series, “Stories from the Stage,” and other productions, as needed

 

Skills Preferred:

•    Strong interest in Non-Fiction/Documentary storytelling and Television production

•    Fluency of social networking platforms

•    Understanding of content-management systems like WordPress or equivalent

•    Ability to write for different mediums

•    Attention to detail, self-motivated, innovative thinker and organized

•    Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Premiere & Photoshop) a plus

•   Undergraduate and Graduate students are both welcome to apply
