About NOVA:

NOVA is the most-watched prime time science series on American television, reaching an average of five million viewers weekly. Now in its fourth decade of production, the series remains committed to producing in-depth science programming in the form of one-hour documentaries and long-form mini-series, from the latest breakthroughs in technology to the deepest mysteries of the natural world. NOVA is produced by WGBH Boston and airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on most PBS stations.

Nova Audience Development Internship Description:

NOVA is hiring an intern to join its audience development team. Ideal candidates know what inspires new readers to engage with and share diverse content on social media, but their interest in audience strategy goes beyond driving traffic: this person will build and foster communities and audiences to significantly grow NOVA’s viewership and readership—both online and on air.

NOVA values new ideas and smart analysis in our programming (whether written or filmed), and we want the same on our digital team. Interns should want to learn about new and existing digital platforms and test their assumptions the landscapes change. They should be thinking about writing, building partnerships will other media teams, editing newsletters, learning about SEO, marketing podcasts, and much more — anywhere a great story can be told.


Key Responsibilities:

The Audience Development Intern will report to the Director of Audience Development and work with NOVA’s digital team to:

Assist with scheduling existing social media accounts and help the digital team refine the voice of NOVA’s social presence, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and emerging platforms

• Editing and manage newsletter campaigns

• Produce social promotions for broadcasts, including Facebook Live events

• Establish social and site partnerships

• Manage online communities of NOVA’s audience, and find new opportunities for cultivating conversations on NOVA’s programs

• Discover and codify audience traffic data


All candidates must be an enrolled student. Due to WGBH policies, the internship is unpaid. However, we are committed to offering our interns worthwhile, fulfilling learning experiences and opportunities to become immersed in the promotion of an award-winning, widely recognized media brand.

Skills Preferred:

Strong writing skills
Interest in social media for national brands
Interest in journalism, communications, and science
Eager to learn the strategies and executions of digital marketing
Women and people of color encouraged to apply

Time Commitment:

In order for our education and outreach interns to have a meaningful experience, we require at least a 16-hour/week commitment. Full days are not necessary, but a regular schedule is preferred.





We offer fall semester internships (Sept-Jan) and spring semester internships (Jan-May). We do not offer summer internships. However, if you do have a strong interest please inquire further.
