Winter Weather Slams Small Businesses: The accumulating snow in Boston — even before this latest winter storm — has made getting around a nightmare. And once you get there, good luck trying to find a parking spot! With so few people willing — or able — to go out and about, local business owners are struggling to entice customers into their shops and restaurants. WGBH’s intrepid Jared Bowen is tromping around the city right now to see how businesses are coping with the latest city shutdown.
How To Fight Back When Your Flight Is Cancelled: Flight cancellations are piling up again today as ice and snow continue bringing airport operations to a crawl across much of the U.S. At last count, 5,300 flights had been canceled by mid-morning. That’s in addition to the nearly 7,000 flights that were grounded yesterday. For some practical advice about what to do if you find yourself in this all-too-common winter scenario, we turn now to the New York Times’ practical traveler columnist, Michelle Higgins – who just last week penned a piece on the very subject entitled “How To Fight Back When Your Flight Is Cancelled.”
Snow Solidarity: Well we’ve gotten hammered with winter weather here in Boston this year and I know everyone is getting a bit snow-weary.... but we are not alone. Chicago is getting clobbered with upwards of two feet as we speak. And Syracuse, NY is one snowiest places in America—averaging more than 100 inches of snow each year. So we’re checking in a few friends of the program in these snow-savvy cities for some solidarity, a little perspective, and perhaps an insider tip or two about how to get through the final weeks of winter with our heads held high.
