Before ‘Whitey’ Was A Household Name
James “Whitey” Bulger will be back in federal court this afternoon and expect at least as big a spectacle as last Friday when hundreds of reporters, victims of Bulger’s crime spree and even court employees lined up to get into the courtroom. At issue today – can Whitey Bulger afford his own attorney or should the court appoint him one? Bulger’s temporary attorney Peter Krupp is also asking for a gag order on the FBI and others who clearly have been leaking information to the news media. WGBH’s Jared Bowen – who is covering this case for us today – joins us from his perch outside of federal court. We’ll also hear from someone who was chasing Bulger long before ‘Whitey’ was a household name. Tim Burke is Needham lawyer, who investigated Bulger in the 1970s and ’80s when he was with the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.
