Habitat For Humanity CEO On Affordable Housing
With operations from Cape Cod to Calcutta – the specific needs vary – but the objective is the same: eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Founded in 1976, the non-profit Habitat for Humanity International has helped build nearly 500,000 decent, affordable houses and served more than two million people around the world. But despite its wide reach and high profile membership (Brad Pitt, Jimmy Carter, etc.) – my next guest says more needs to be done to raise awareness and “create a compelling common narrative that demonstrates how shelter issues affect everyone.” Jonathan Reckford, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, is in Boston today to give a lecture at Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies – and he joins me now.
