Bruins Stanley Cup Victory Cements Boston As City Of Champions
This afternoon, there is elation on the streets of Boston, the city of champions. With a decisive 4-0 victory in Game 7 of the NHL Finals last night, the Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in almost 40 years and completed the grand slam — so to speak — for Boston sports fans. In just the last 7 years, all four major sports teams have won it all. For a generation of sports fans in New England, championships are all they know. But it wasn’t always that way. Ask anyone who can’t say the name Bucky Dent without inserting a certain four letter word in the middle. Or suffered through the Patriots 46-10 loss to the Bears in Super Bowl XX. So how did Boston transform from the city of heartbreak to the city of parades and how has it changed the psyche of sports fans here in New England? Joining us to discuss that are a couple of die-hard, lifelong fans from different generations, Boston.com’s Garrett Quinn and longtime Boston sportscaster Bob Lobel. Also, checking in with us from Vancouver are Boston Globe columnist Kevin Cullenand Boston Globe sports reporter Tony Massarotti.
