It all started at a Cambridge City Council meeting two weeks ago. City Councilor Ken Reeves made an off-hand comment that neighboring Somerville has — quote -- “a very short list of not-that-interesting places” -- end quote. Well, upon hearing that ‘intolerable insult’, Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone fired-off a feisty retort. Saying once-hip Harvard Square had as much charm as the Natick Mall, he dared Cambridge to an Interesting City Challenge. From there, it devolved into an all-out internet brawl — with Cambridge and Somerville residents trading barbs and insults on the message boards. The Twittosphere has dubbed the disagreement SomerBridgeSmackdown. In the interest of restoring inter-city harmony, we’ve invited both Mayor Curtatone and Councilor Reeves to join us.
