But when Filene's Basement opened in 1909, it was a true pioneer. The store introduced a radical discount model, and was remarkably forward-thinking in terms of employee rights. In his film, "Voices From The Basement," Filmmaker Michael Bavaro follows over 100 years of the Basement, and the memories - and bargains - within.
