Eternal Echoes: A Dudele

CLASSICAL MUSIC/99.5 WCRB Journal

A production of

The first in a series of features exploring Eternal Echoes - Songs and Dances for the Soul, from EMI Classics, with violinist Itzhak Perlman, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, and the New England Conservatory's Hankus Netsky.

A dudele is a very personal kind of prayer. The dramatic first note is a call to God: "Master of the Universe! I will sing a song to you: You, You, You, You You!" You will hear the repeated word "du." We'll hear not only the track on the album, but clips of older recordings that inspired it (including a very notable one by Jan Peerce.) The end of the track breaks into a joyous dance, Berditchever Sher.
