Carols for Dancing
WGBH and PRI present Carols for Dancing, a public radio holiday
program that combines music performances by the band Renaissonics with the storytelling of
Sound & Spirit's Ellen Kushner. Together they explore the intimate connection between
traditional Christmas music and medieval and Renaissance dance.
Ellen Kushner's storytelling brings to life the origins of many of our familiar
carols, which sprang up as dance songs in European courts, villages, and churches.
The award-winning musicians of Renaissonics, an improvisatory Renaissance dance band from Cambridge,
offers new instrumental arrangements of these carols, noels, and villancicos. Their engaging
performances highlight the joy and spirit of the midwinter holiday dance tradition. (Photo: George

Carols for Dancing is a holiday presentation from WGBH Radio Boston and PRI, Public Radio
International.
