2017 Berklee Jazz Festival

The Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival returned Saturday Sept. 30, 2017 to Columbus Avenue, west of Massachusetts Avenue, for six blocks to Burke Street. While there was rain from time to time, it was a day filled with great music and fun!

Freeman Kicks Off "Live from Scullers" Season

Boston Public Radio, in partnership with Scullers, brings you a series of monthly live Jazz broadcasts. WGBH's “dean of Boston jazz” Eric Jackson is your host.

Our new season of broadcasts began Saturday, October 14 with multi-reedman and keyboardist, Chico Freeman.

Since 1989, the legendary Scullers Jazz Club has presented the biggest names in straight ahead, Latin and Contemporary Jazz, as well as Blues, Soul, R & B, Cabaret and World Music.

Each live broadcast begins at 10pm, when Eric introduces the artists on the Scullers stage to his listeners on 89.7 WGBH Radio.

Friends of John Coltrane Memorial Concert

The 40th anniversary week commenced with a return one time only showing of the highly acclaimed 2016 documentary film "Chasing Trane", followed by a panel discussion moderated by Emmett G. Price III with Tia Fuller, Eric Jackson and JCMC co-founder Syd Smart.
The week continued with several free and insightful 'Trane-oriented presentations, Chasing More ‘Trane and Insider Reflections on the JCMC Legacy, along with a retrospective photo exhibit entitled 40 Years of Celebrating 'Trane, curated by Edmund Barry Gaither.
The momentum of the week's proceedings culminated with two consecutive evening concerts. The first, on Friday October 6th, featured the time-honored JCMC Ensemble. On Saturday October 7th, JCMC presented the great master saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and his quartet.

Celebrating The Centennial of Jazz

Founded in 1978 by jazz impresario George Wein, Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival is the fifth longest-consecutive-running jazz festival in North America. Initially founded as “the Newport Jazz Festival at Saratoga” the weekend event was renamed Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival in 1998.
